PSA

One of the lovliest people on my Friends List, [livejournal.com profile] rho, (who I pay much too little attention to as of late ) has a very informative entry here that I encourage everyone to take a look at when they get some spare time. It deals with steps you can take if someone on your friends list threatens to commit suicide. Comments of hugs, I care and other such things, while the sentiment is understandable and caring, don't necessarily take action on the suicide itself.

This is a difficult subject, and a difficult item to deal with when you're talking to people, many of whom you've never met and live thousands of miles away. It's hard to know what to do and what steps to take when someone you barely know is making such a drastic decision. Please take the time to look through what [livejournal.com profile] rho has to say. That is all.

LiveJournal Hiatus

Bought HP&HBP last night (yes, I'm a lemming, let it go). Probably won't be around on LiveJournal much until I finish reading it, and I read slowly, so. Yeah. Enjoy! I know I will!

Feel free to post spoilers and such, but comment here with a spoiler at your own peril. Not that I care that much, I suppose (I /did/ afterall do a google search for spoilers last night around 5pm - I'm pathetic.). So. Yeah. Love and stuff.

I'm such a geek

LiveJournal has recently implented tags - a nifty new feature in which you can basically categorize your posts with keywords without having to memorify them. Nifty sweet.

And I'm such a geek. I've spent the last couple of days going through all my posts (all the way back to December 2002 - wow) and tagging each post. I have a few corrections to make, but... yeah. That was a project, and one that did not help me get the condo cleaned, clean out one of the litter boxes or get started on dinner.

But! Organization!

Everyone Else is Doing It

I feel it my duty as a former LiveJournal Support volunteer and as a friend of several current LiveJournal Support volunteers to pass on a PSA.

DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE OR ANY SITE. There are sites who insist that passwords are not cached - DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. There are also people who insist they can belch the alphabet, understand Italian Opera and attend Green Day concerts all in one day. While it's /possible/, common sense dictates that it's not /likely/.

Now, this isn't just for the security of your account, though that's a major part of it. If you have a friends list, and you've been added to someone else's friends list as a reciprocal, that means you have access to posts and information about that person that they might trust /you/ with, but probably not total strangers. If you've given your password to someone you *cannot guarantee* will keep it completely confidential (read: they're living and breathing), you've just given that person access to your friends who had trusted you.

All is not lost. If you have given out your password to someone (or any service of any kind), just simply change your password and don't do it again. Ever. With any of your personal information. Especially when others are trusting you with some sensitive information about them.

I love you all dearly, but I won't hesitate to drop people from my friends list if I find out that I can't trust them.

Gossip is so much fun

It appears that LiveJournal is in some sort of negotiation to be purchased by Six Apart.. I'll let you read the article yourself since I know all the people on my Friends list are very intelligent.

I'd first heard the rumor from my husband a few hours ago, then checked my Friends page about 1/2 hour ago to be greeted with 3 posts concerning it. I then debated if I should pass it on or not. Best case, word spreads. Worst case, the report turns out to be a dud and LiveJournal really isn't being sold. But. I have my suspicions that it is. So, I pass it on, with some helpful advice to my LiveJournal Friends.

TOO COOL

So, I was looking through the Support Board today (even though I'm on self-declared holiday from Support) and found a link that a requestor had posted in his personal journal. And I debated for all of 30 seconds and decided I needed to share with everyone!

Purchase your own microbes! I want an ulcer, a common cold and mononucleosis! Bad Breath is kinda cool too. =D =D =D

Patty Rants

Now, for some, I know the Patty Rants can be a fun-filled evening of new and unusual names, curses, slander and sometimes even violent threats. And, as I know some of you thoroughly enjoy a good verbal ass-whuppin' by your favorite hot-headed Iowan, I have to burst everyone's bubbles. I can be wrong. And I was.

I recently ranted (and subsequently privatized said rant) about a response I received from [livejournal.com profile] lj_abuse regarding a troll who was attacking specific communities. I was.. most displeased.. with the stituation and the immediate solution. I now understand why I received the response I did and in the form it was given, and humbly apologize to anyone I may have offended or otherwise insulted. I am truly, deeply, very very sorry. I ranted before I had all the details, and I'm truly sorry. I really should have known better.

Now, for my soapbox. LiveJournal volunteers aren't paid. (Hence.. volunteering.) They are given a very few privileges, but for the most part do this entirely out of the goodness of their hearts and their desire to actually help. They eventually meet new people and gain new friends, but ultimately, they're drawn to support and abuse communities to help others. That said, I don't think any of us (myself included) give enough credit and appreciation to these folks.

Again, I deeply apologize for my most recent rant.

My Poor LiveJournal

1
You and your Lj know of each other, but you need to
work on your relationship. Infrequent contact
and a lack of enthusiasm really have you too
set apart. Make an effort to get to know your
Lj better, and believe me, you will not be
dissapointed!

What is the relationship between you and your Lj?

Support Suggestion!

It'd be nice to be able to delete a screened response of yours in the event of needing to correct a typo, or in my case many times, a simple brainfart. I know I've had a couple where I would reread my post and stare at my wonderous loss of the English language of which I've been speaking for over 20 years!

Edit: Yeah, sorry, this was posted to the wrong journal. Since, however, I received a response (which is how I noticed it was x-posted), I'll leave it up. Sorry sorry! =)

Phoenix

So, now it's working. Yay. Phoenix was updated and so far looks pretty nice. This might become my client of choice.

So, yeah. Got my physiology test back today. 86%, 88% in the class. I'm worried I can't do any better than an B+ in there, which is bad, because I want my GPA to come back up. Ah well. Took the dog breed test today. Terriers, no problem. Hounds... hounds were a problem. Oh well. Thanks for the encouraging words, [livejournal.com profile] trelana! Ah well. Over now. Semester will end in about a week, then I'll jump into finals. (Well, a little over a week, but saying a week makes me feel better.) Then... work and Sally time!

Speaking of Sally, she's doing wonderfully at home. And the cats have finally ventured downstairs and come out of hiding. Hopefully I'll get Pita to eat again sometime soon. Though a little bored, she otherwise seems happy. And she really likes Steve. Like, a lot. He was laying on the sofa yesterday and she hopped up in his lap and reclined against him. Cuddled for awhile. I was amazed. Of course, I've been encouraging it by making *him* walk her when we go for our walks and we bought snausages for him to feed her. (I just give her regular, cheap dog biscuits.) She's very vocal when someone's at the door or near the townhouse. I hope I can get that to calm down soon before one of our neighbors gets upset.

But, dinner time! Need to get all the monsters fed and me as well!

Peace and love!

Phoenix Update

I just received a response on the Phoenix community, and.. apparently it won't accept special characters in a password. The suggestion is to change my password, which, I'm not willing to do. Ah well. I guess I've played with enough clients today! =)

Oh. And I've been thumbing through Support requests. Good lord, those people handle a lot!

Testing Phoenix

Well, Phoenix isn't working for me currently, but I'll try redownloading it and seeing if maybe it's a problem with *my* download. I wouldn't think so, but you never know! But, the login screen for Phoenix is very pretty. From the 3 I can get working so far (Journal Alert, XJournal and iJournal), I think I like XJournal the best. Hmm. I can think of improvements *yet* for it, but I like the layout and features together. I wish it had the alert feature, though. That's really nice. ;) And, of course, there are features in iJournal that I like as well.

XJournal

The last post was made with JournalAlert. I like the feature that it'll check for new posts. Nice. Very nice.

This is being made by XJournal, which seems easy to use, though I'll have to see if I can turn off the annoying spelling/grammar check. Good for some, annoying as all hell for me. ;) I do like the side bar of this that allows me to see what userpic I'm using, and the easy to see Security I've chosen for the post. It also has some nifty checkbox stuff on the sidebar for backdating, etc.

Comment if you would like to see screenshots of the various clients, but screenshots are available on the individual websites, too. =)

Don't mind me. Next couple of posts will likely be trying out a couple of clients for Mac OSX. I like iJournal, don't get me wrong, but I'm curious about the other clients, too!

I like it a -lot-. The people who designed these templates need a good pat on the back. They all look great! Congratulations!
